I missed the first court date in a child custody case, what can I do?
I have had no contact with the caseworker, supervisor, lawyer, or any other party involved. Every week there are new people involved in the case and no one can answer any of my questions. My children were removed from their mothers custody and i was never notified. I’ve been chasing the mother of my children for three years, even having to notify law enforcement and C.P.S. According to C.P.S., they have no record of me and thats why my children weren’t placed with me. What can I do?
A: Have you been adjudicated as the father of the child by a court? If so take these court papters to CPS to show that you are the father of the child and they will let you into the case as a party of record. If you have not been adjudicated by a court of law as being the childs father then you need to file a paternity petition in the Superior Court system. You would be advised to obtain legal counsel for the paternity petition.
